Since Salaam Centre, started the “Quran for All” project in Aug 2008, they have distributed more than 20,000 copies of the Quran on request. If you are in Bangalore, you can get your gift copy of the Quran by calling the number displayed on the hoarding.
You cannot simply read the Qur’an, not if you take it seriously. You either have surrendered to it already or you fight it. It attacks teanciously, directly, personally; it debates, criticizes, shames and challenges. From the outset it draws the line of battle, and I was on the other side.
I was at a severe disadvantage, for it became clear that the Author knew me better than I knew myself. Painters can make the yes of a portrait appear to be following you from one place ot another, but what author can write a scripture that anticipates your daily vicissitudes? The Qur’an was always way ahead of my thinkng; it was erasing barriers I had built years ago and was addressing my queries.
Each night I would formulate questions and objections, and somehow discover the answer the next day as I continues on in the accepted order. It was that the Author was reading my ideas and writing in the appropriate lines in time for my next reading. I had met myself in its pages, and I was afraid of what I saw. I was being led, working my way into corner that contained only one choice. – Jeffery Lang, Struggling to Surrender

Ever since Vodafone has taken over Hutch for $19.3 Billion (only), they’ve been plastering the country with TV Commercials, Hoardings and even Bumper Stickers.
I for one am going to miss Hutch. Not too much for their service they provided (because I’ve heard it sucked), but for their brilliant advertising. Who can forget their terrific teaser launch. It was the first time I’ve seen Hoardings taken all over the country with a common face and a big bold “Hi”. This was done when Airtel where wooing Shah Rukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar to pose for their ads. What Hutch saved from royalty fees to these stars, they splurged in volume by covering as many locations as possible. This was followed by the even more successful TV Spot of a cute dog following a boy in all unlikely locations, ending with the tagline “Where ever you go, the Hutch network follows.”
The first prize however goes to the Hutch sponsored sign up at my local mosque that says, “God may speak to you here, but He’s unlikely to use your mobile. Please switch it off before entering the mosque.” Now, that’s class.
Anyway, Hutch ain’t coming back. Till then, enjoy this Vodafone ad and make the most of Now :-)

I saw it myself, I swear. It was right there next to the sting ray. And it’s retailing at Rs. 100/Kg at Metro.
I don’t know about you, but this picure makes me sad.

Do check out this useful website on our fair city, promoted by Sify.com. What we found most handy is the live traffic update covering Brigade Road, Hosur Road, Mekhri Circle and Basveshwara Circle. Additionally, it has info on weather, rail and fight timings as well.
